"a languid floating flower" by barbarasobczynska "a languid floating flower" by barbarasobczynska
"Enjoy a bath now: clean trough of water, cool enamel, the gentle tepid stream. This is my body.
He foresaw his pale body reclined in it at full, naked, in a womb of warmth, oiled by scented melting soap, softly laved. He saw his trunk and limbs riprippled over and sustained, buoyed lightly upward, lemonyellow: his navel, bud of flesh: and saw the dark tangled curls of his bush floating, floating hair of the stream around the limp father of thousands, a languid floating flower."

[James Joyce, Ulysses]

a little drawing inspired by "Ulysses", probably the most genius novel of the XXth century:worship:

this picture will be - along with a miniature bottle of Polish vodka:absolut:-a first prize for the winner of a little writing Bloomsday Contest I organized that just ended yesterday:D(check out the entries in my journal:nod:)

Joyce was a great writer. I think his work should be introduced to kids in high school. Perhaps not Ulysses, as it is difficult and advanced material. Dubliners was a great book, one I would hope my younger sister will one day read (instead of that dreadful Twilight crap.)

Anyway, enough rambling, you are awesome, with your awesomeness on paper.

What a beautiful, suggestively erotic vision... The adequation between text and illustration is perfect, and I like how the antique-like boats suggest the classical subtext of Joyce's text.

I wonder, what was your mood, while doing this.
That' s nothing particularly original in this piece, but something touched my eyes.
Vivid lights and spaces and holes.
And the references you take, which suit perfectly to the image.

Yep :)
